Member Spotlight: Mikayla
A Proud Local 33 Sheet Metal Worker
As a high school student, Mikayla knew college wasn’t the right path for her. But she didn’t know what else was out there. After talking with her guidance counselor, she discovered all that the trades had to offer and decided to take a leap of faith.
Now Mikayla is a certified sheet metal worker who specializes in architectural work. She gets to complete a wide array of projects each week and has been given opportunities to learn new skills and improve her craft. She also gets to see her hard work firsthand, which is a tangible reminder of the difference she’s making in her community.
As the first person in her family to pursue a career in the construction industry, Mikayla wasn’t sure what her future held. But now looking back on her decision, she knows it was the right one. She finds great pride and satisfaction in doing work that matters, not only to herself but to those around her.
